The 3rd Annual Celebration in Remembrance of the Life and Work of The Father of the Tanzanian Nation, Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere was held at the Howard University Towers Auditorium on October 16th 2010.

This event is hosted annually by the Julius K. Nyerere Commemoration, Inc. of Washington DC. JKNC, Inc. is founded and largely sponsored by an African American couple; Ndugu and Mrs. Rick Tingling-Clemmons, whose love for Mwalimu and admiration for his works and philosophy inspired them to organize this worthy event in his name. The theme this year is in concurrence with Mwalimu's core values… "Fighting Poverty, Ignorance and Disease".

Her Excellency, The Ambassador of The United Republic of Tanzania; Mrs. Mwanaidi Sinare Maajar graced this event accompanied by The Embassy's Political Attache Mr. Suleiman Saleh. H. E. Ambassador Maajar was recently posted to Washington DC from the UK; Her Excellency was impressed by the efforts of the team that put together this event and promised to work closely with them for such an auspicious event that honors and celebrates the legacy of Mwalimu Nyerere, Tanzania's Founding Father and first President, who has also proved to be The father of Africans and the Descendants of Africa everywhere.

Speakers from the Academia and various Descendants of Africa; gave wonderful accolades to Mwalimu's vision and selflessness to mention but a few of his exceptional qualities as a great son of Africa and a leader ahead of his time.
Among them were
Attorney Fred H. Brooks (irrefutably a 'Tanzanian-Swahili' with flawless Kiswahili) and Dr. David Schwartzman, a Professor at Howard University - also the event venue hosts.
These distinguished speakers recounted moving evidence of Mwalimu's unprecedented influence in their lives.


The Keynote speaker, Dr. John Rutayuga of Ukimwi Orphans Assistance, a not-for-profit organization with operations in the US, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. UOA is also a partner of the JKNC Inc. event organization.


Brother Hodari Abdul-Ali, Executive Director, Give Peace a Chance Coalition (G-PAC), Radio Host and Proprietor of Dar es Salaam Book stores in the Washington Metropolitan.


Mr. Emmanuel Muganda represented Mwalimu Nyerere's family. A seasoned Broadcaster who worked with VOA in Washington DC; Muganda shared precious anecdotes of Mwalimu's Historical escapades in the US with various American Presidents during his visits.

Tanzania Mitindo House fashionably entertained the august audience with creative designs from Tanzania.

Special Histori-Kali khangas for Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Commemoration and Obama khanga were auctioned at the event.
H. E., Ambassador Mwanaidi Maajar livened up the occasion by delightfully participating with the audience who loved her charm and wit….. affirming the fact that Tanzania now has an Ambassador in office befitting the dynamics required for this part of the world.

The unique Mwalimu Commemoration khanga and the Obama 'Yes We Can' khanga specially designed by Ms. Belinda Mlingo of Washington DC.


Mrs. Eliserena Kimolo, Executive/Program Director of Jambo Africa Child Hope organization of Washington DC, final and winner of the bid for the famed commemoration khanga.

Young Miss Maria Rutayuga being thanked for her priceless contribution towards the success of the event as the special IT Technician with a Mwalimu Hoodie.

Celebration tradition demands a feast… The feast was provided by Caroline's Kitchen of Washington DC. They prepared a feast fit for the Sons and Daughters of Africa….. Those that know their Father, Acknowledge his Worth and Live up to his Aspirations…… therefore, never letting his life's work be in vain.
